1987 Dmitry Varshavsky is registered to work at the Mari State Philharmonic. 1988 BLACK COFFEE participates along with world music stars in the "San Issidro 1988" festival held May 6-15 in Madrid. In the summer, concerts of the Cheka were opened by the group computer(MONIN/BEZUGLY), in which drummer Andrey PERTSEV played. VARSHAVSKY offers him to record the album "Volny - Volya" - by that time, Sergei CHERNYAKOV, for health reasons, could not cope with the new program of the Cheka. In 1979, Dmitry Varshavsky entered the Gnessin State Musical College. In the same year, he composed the song "Country" to the verses of Andrei Voznesensky. Since the writing of this song, the history of the group has officially been counted. The first professional recording of "Black Coffee" - the composition "Flight of a Bird", the music for which Varshavsky wrote to the words of the first bassist of the Cheka Pavel Ryzhenkov - was recorded in the recording studio of the VFG "Melody" by sound engineer Yuri Bogdanov in 1981.

In 1982, while studying at Gnesinka, Varshavsky met bass player Fyodor Vasiliev, who was a year younger. The third participant is drummer Andrey Shatunovsky. On Easter night in 1984, the trio gives their first concert at the Iskra club in Moscow.

Varshavsky graduated from the Music College. Gnesins in the class of electric guitar and receives a diploma of a professional musician, which makes it possible to conduct official concert activities. Autumn 1984 - the first tour (in Kazakhstan). In 1985, "Black Coffee" begins to work from the Aktobe Philharmonic, but without Shatunovsky. In the spring of 2006, Dmitry Dobrynin's program on Radio Russia premiered songs from the album Alexandria, which was released in February 2007.

2010–2014: Concert tours of "Black Coffee" are successfully held in the cities of Russia, Ukraine, Israel. Pierre's attire now consisted of a dirty, torn shirt, the only remnant of his former dress, soldier's trousers, tied for warmth with ropes at the ankles on the advice of Karataev, from a caftan and a peasant's hat. The founder, vocalist, and guitarist of the group is Dmitry Varshavsky. The first wide audience of "Black Coffee" were military personnel. After a tour of military units, the group was included in the list of banned rock bands, although in practice its concerts (unlike, for example, DDT performances) were not banned. The first recording of the group was made in 1981, but the debut concert of "Black Coffee" (the group did not yet have a name) took place only three years later. Since 1985, Dmitry Varshavsky began to invite session musicians to record albums, hold concerts and tours, by the end of the 1980s this practice became permanent and "Black Coffee" finally turned into Varshavsky's solo project. In total, no less than thirty performers collaborated with Black Coffee at different times.
It was then that Dmitry Varshavsky took up the guitar for the first time and wrote his first songs.

"Black Coffee" participates along with the stars of world music in the festival "San Issidro 1988", held May 6-15 in Madrid.
